Associated Press SANTIAGO, Chile — A group of Chilean priests on Thursday demanded for the resignation of a bishop, accusing him of covering up for a prominent priest who sexually abused altar boys. The priests and deacons in the southern city of Osorno made their request to Ivo Scapalo, the papal nuncio in Chile. They said newly appointed bishop Juan Barros Madrid covered up for the Rev. Fernando Karadima. Victims have said Karadima began abusing them at his residence at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church in Santiago about 20 years ago, when they were between 14 and 17 years old. The Vatican sanctioned Karadima by ordering him to a life of “penitence and prayer” in 2011. A Chilean judge later dismissed a criminal case because the statute of limitations had expired, but she determined the abuse allegations were truthful. Barros, who was close to Karadima, was appointed bishop by Pope Francis in early January. About 50 Chilean lawmakers signed a petition this week asking the Vatican for his resignation, and more than 1,000 residents of Osorno have signed a similar petition protesting his nomination.3 March 2015 Chile's Villarrica Volcano Eruption - thousands flee for their lives.

In 1846 Our Lady said that we would be punished for the sins of the Priests. This day is now. Pope Francis is the cause of the Volcano eruption for appointing a Bishop not agreeable to the Blessed Trinity.
This event is one of many to come under this pontificate.

I would like to see Bishop Barros Madrid leave Osorno. I would prefer that Francis remove him. It would be an act of humility However, I deplore the idea that the volcano eruption s god venting displeasure. I used the small "g" on purpose since this depiction of God is really very superstitious and misleading.
ReplyDeleteIt would be better to put up webpage that shows how the early Church selected bishops and how the kings and popes infringed on the rights of the people.
Catholics are people of TRADITION in that they preserve their faith by re-enactment of the various rite. In the rites of ordination and installation is something called the Acclamation. This is all that is left of the election of the bishops by the people. The theology is that the people must accept the bishop. In Osorno the people were not given the opportunity express their acceptance or rejection in an orderly and peaceful manner. They did express their rejection in a noisy demonstration that temporarily halted the ceremonies in the Cathedral.
Some say the Catholic Church is not a democracy. That is correct today but it used to have some simple democratic procedures in selecting leaders and it should return to its roots. It would be better to promote rational sane ideas to really reform the Catholic Church. Possibly, the Chilean government could aid the people by requiring an acclamation election and independent boards to manage the temporal assets of the Church. Switzerland requires independent boards for both the diocese and the parishes. After what the bishop of Los Angeles, California stole the cemetery funds and the attempt to do the same in Minneapolis, the special agencies such as cemeteries, hospitals, universities, and charities need separation from the direct control from the whims of individual bishops.
The present system of feudal bishop barons is not of divine origin but developed from the warlord and robber barons period in Europe and transplanted elsewhere.
The way to change things is to first get the truth. Second is to organize. Third is non-violent actions.
Be careful to prevent any violence because it deafens the ears of others to your message and the hierarchy then portray themselves as victims and martyrs.
Non-violent resistance at some point will result in violence on the non-violent. This is when it is most important. When Gandhi was arrested and imprisoned, he instructed his followers, "You must not use any violence under any circumstances. You will be beaten, but you must not resist: you must not even raise a hand to ward off blows." This is the same as Christ's instruction to turn the other cheek and his warning that "Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
