Pope Francis to Address the United Nations General Assembly

On September 25th, 2015, Pope Francis will formally address the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. With the assembly celebrating its 70th anniversary, the attendance and address of Pope Francis are guaranteed to make it a special one. This year’s assembly will also involve huge decisions for its members concerning sustainable development, climate change and much more. In addition to Pope Francis’ address to the assembly he will also have bilateral meetings with the Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, and participate in a town hall gathering with United Nations staff. The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. There are 193 Member States, and the purpose is to take action on the issues that are confronting humanity in the 21st century. Pope Paul VI spoke to the General Assembly in 1965, when he visited. Pope John Paul II addressed them twice – saying that he came as a witness to human dignity. In 2008, Pope Benedict XVI also spoke to the United Nations.

Pope Francis May Attend New York Inter-religious Meeting

During his visit to New York,Pope Francis may participate in an inter-religious meeting. Pope Francis has been urging more interreligious dialogue, particularly with Islam, so it comes as no surprise that he hopes to have an Interreligious Meeting during his New York visit.

Possible Locations for Inter-religious Meeting

The details as to who will be holding the meeting have not yet been revealed. However, The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) seems like a probable option given its history and connection with Pope Francis. Founded by Reverend James Parks Morton in 1997 as a Non-Governmental Organization, ICNY strives to be a example for the world of successful mutual understanding and cooperation among various faith traditions. What makes the ICNY a probable location for the inter-religious meeting is the desire that both the organization and Pope Francis share: interfaith dialogue between Christians and Muslims. Last December, ICNY’s Executive Director, The Reverend Chloe Breyer, an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of New York, had the opportunity to participate in a Christian-Muslim Summit held in Rome with Pope Francis present. During the meeting, Breyer was able to to become briefly acquainted with the Holy Father. As well, the ICNY’s work on Muslim-Catholic service partnerships has been recognized in the past at meetings led by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

Another possibility is the The Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations, an organization composed of representatives from religious, spiritual and ethical non-governmental organizations. Since 1972, the organization has met regularly, working to form dialogue about the ties between the global challenges the UN faces and the interplay of religion and ethical values in that picture. The Committee meets monthly between September and June at the Church Center for the United Nations in New York City.

Visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral

On his personal blog, Cardinal Dolan has expressed an eager desire to show St. Patrick’s Cathedral to Pope Francis in September while the pontiff is in New York. Located on Madison Avenue, the Cathedral was formally opened in May of 1879. In 2012, Cardinal Dolan launched a much-needed, $177 million dollar restoration of the Cathedral noting major problems such as the roof leaking, crumbling marble blocks, splitting glass, and outdated heating, air, and plumbing. Now, with the upcoming papal visit to the U.S. in mind, Cardinal Dolan is pressing for current building contractors to finish the restoration of the Cathedral before the end of September.

Historically, two pontiffs have visited the Cathedral. In October of 1936, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, who later became Pope Pius XII, visited the cathedral and celebrated Mass there for the 26th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral. Nearly a century later, Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope to celebrate Mass there during his visit to the United States in the Spring of 2008.

Pope Francis’ Mass at Madison Square Garden

During his visit to New York in September, Pope Francis may become the first pope to celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden, a popular indoor arena located in Manhattan. Madison Square Garden is a multi-purpose indoor arena, primarily used for sporting events, concerts, and other large-scale events. With a seating capacity of over 19,000, the venue proves to be a suitable location for a papal Mass in New York.

Interethnic Meeting with the Pontiff

Perhaps one of the most unique and significant elements of Pope Francis’ trip to New York is the proposed interethnic meeting. The meeting will probably involve representatives of various communities and is considered quite significant because of the diversity of the people living in New York. There are no further details at this time.

Pope Benedict’s visit to Ground Zero

On April 20th, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope to visit Ground Zero, the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There he knelt and prayed in the very spot where the World Trade Center once stood, blessed the site, and met with 24 selected guests. Since Pope Benedict’s visit, the official memorial has been established, and the museum has been finished, so there will be several new places for Pope Francis to see.

In anticipation of the pope's visit a bizarre event took place today in NYC:

NEW DELHI: In a breathtaking spectacle, Goddess Kali was projected on the Empire State Building in New York. Artist Andrew Jones designed the portrait of the goddess to make the point that Mother Nature now more than ever needs a fierce avatar to fight the dangers of pollution and extinction, Firstpost.com reported. Earlier images of endangered species, including Cecil the lion, were also projected on the iconic building. Times Of India Read More>>>>>>

Demon Pazuzu
“In the year 1864, Lucifer together with a large number of demons will be unloosed from hell; they will put an end to faith little by little, even in those dedicated to God. They will blind them in such a way, that, unless they are blessed with a special grace, these people will take on the spirit of these angels of hell; several religious institutions will lose all faith and will lose many souls. Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)
Several will abandon the faith, and a great number of priests and members of religious orders will break away from the true religion; among these people there will even be bishops. Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)
