A chemistry lecturer has been hailed a hero after he died saving his students by firing back at Taliban militants during a deadly attack on their university. Syed Hamid Husain, an assistant professor at the Bacha Khan University near Peshawar, Pakistan, ordered his pupils to stay inside as gunmen stormed the campus, leaving at least 30 people dead and dozens injured. The father-of-two, who was already known as 'The Protector', opened fire on the assailants, giving them time to flee before he was cut down by gunfire. One student said: 'We saw three terrorists shouting "Allah is great!" and rushing towards the stairs of our department. 'One student jumped out of the classroom through the window.
